I always liked my mornings free
to be alone, which, of course,
made employment impossible for me.
Evenings, I liked to listen to the wireless
or share a meal and intellectual or other intimacy
or read, or write bad poetry...
Never-employed, layabout, shoplifting, work-shy
scroungers and spongers like me are invisible
while we mewlingly drain the country's economy.
But Roma, Travellers, Immigrants, Boat-people
Refugees from pogroms, invasions, famine and genocide
are accused of bleeding the country dry.
