Although I know you're not a fan of sport, Anthony, I would add the GAA to that list. In an era where professional sportspeople are paid disgusting amounts of money to pursue their ego glory while being cheered on by the ignorant hordes, the fact that people who play GAA are paid nothing and sacrifice a fair bit of their lives for love of the game/parish/county is a noble thing in my eyes. Plus it was one of the few arenas in Ireland where the whole North/South issue was utterly irrelevant.

Actually I didn't say that there were ONLY two remarkably good things about Ireland...

It's a good point, Karl – and I’m glad you made it.

The fourth Good Thing about Ireland is its default neutrality, modelled on that of Switzerland. This contrasts with it hideous, overpopulated and imperialist neighbour which is the most bellicose and aggressive nation in history...

And Lyric FM, the world's best classical music station! In particular, the JK Ensemble from 2-4pm, a wonderful eclectic show. Give it a try, non-Irish people!

And I can only echo your description of the other island....
