Why do we hear so little protest against mass-murdering Hamas ?
Where were the protests against the torture and killing of hundreds of thousands of Iranians under the rule of theocratic 'monsters' ?
The only explanation is that Israel is a Western-style democracy operating under 'the rule of law', whereas Syria was a 'terror-state' like Saddam's Iraq, but without nuclear fission establishments.
The only other democratic nation-states in the Middle East have been Iran (briefly) and Lebanon (partly).
As to why we hear so little about Stalin's 30-year murder (etc.) of millions of Russians (apart from the deaths in the Second World War), it may be that he disposed of relatively few Jews, and even expelled some to help found the state of Israel. Moreover, Israelis and Jews have 'hogged the holocaust' with vast and soul-freezing documentation, which has not been the case with the former USSR.
In Jerusalem, Palestinian neighbourhoods are being bulldozed. Some Palestinians have been ordered to demolish their own homes.
