Fateful.

Some may remember The Millennium Bug
and the digital-numerological panic
surrounding the year 2000.

It was also the year that the
(U.S.A. presidential) election defeat
of environmentalist Al Gore
turbo-charged already-irreversible
climate change, amongst other
oilygarchic and militaristic evils.

2024 may bring a similar speeding-up
of our super-Wagnerian rush to Ragnarók.

I highly doubt the election of Al Gore would have made any measurable difference in the heat increase in the coming human-made flora-fauna sauna.

You are right, of course. But his environmental attitude would have woken up the rest of the world, and his policies would have made the long-inevitable effects occur much more slowly. We should also consider the wars that probably would not have occurred, and so on.
I was just trying to say that the election of George W. Bush in the year 2000 ensured that the USA charged at full speed towards 'the apocalypse', taking the rest of the world with it.

I have made some improvements!

Sometimes I wish there were an editorial history of everything you have changed in your blog entries. ;) Now I don´t even remember the wording of the original anymore. Something with "prevented"... oh, it does not matter, but silly, obsessive thoughts like that haunt me almost every day. :)

I make very few changes. The original was badly-stated and too wordy.
