Some solitudinarians

banned the reading of books.  But not Socrates,
and apparently not St Jerome, who also had a lion for company.
Call that solitude ?

St. Jerome was really alone. He cut off his own balls.
But that left him with enough testosterone to whack out a thundering Latin translation of the Bible.

So he put his 'balls', his testosterone etc into his translation work, rather than keep it all in himself? Now that is what I would call transferance!

You're right, that's some transference, but unlike other castrations of the time--and there were many eunuchs--St. Jerome's like Origen's were self-inflicted for focus on the new Christianity!
