from The Diwan of Abu'l-Ala by Abu al-Ala al-Ma'arri

(whose statue was recently beheaded by Sa'udi agents in Syria)

Now this doctrine for a while prevails
  Until it's by another overthrown,
Because we dare not live with life alone,
But crave companionship with fairy-tales.

Didn't know they beheaded his statue. Even though it's not surprising, it causes my heart to sink further.

One of the reasons speculated for it is that it's because they believed Al Ma'ari to be related to Assad! How heartrending that they would think Al Ma'ari would have his bloodline continue (to this day)!
