In the 1960s

we all imagined life getting easier,
fairer, more relaxed and comfortable;
we would work less
- or even not at all.

But capitalist progress
had a different goal:
to turn the whole world
into anxious workers
and debt-ridden consumers
controlled by fake democracies
and their complicated
- yet crude - smoke and mirrors.

On the death of a former lover

"It is with a profound sense of sadness and loss..."
I read, on idly Googling my old friend William,
who was such fun to eat with in his early twenties,
and who said,
when he was fucking me with his sweet wee dick,
that it felt much more like me fucking him.
He liked my paintings for their unrefinement.
I painted him. You can see that portrait here.
Compare it with the obituary-photo.
An early work of his hangs in my bedroom -
I haven't looked at it for years...
Now shall go up the stairs.

From this week's 'New Yorker' magazine

"Six million people are under correctional supervision in the U.S.
—more than were in Stalin’s gulags."
[People in the southern states see]
"... the prison system as essentially a slave plantation continued by other means."

Identity at seventy

Who am I ?
I am: just anyone,
just a constant stream
of thought carried by
a ridiculously healthy frame
in the bewilderness.
And I am: I (or me, to be colloquial)
and cannot see
why anyone would want to be
more solid than mere fantasy
of self, a brief illogicality
encased in flesh and selfness.

The most elevated,

human art
is the unfulfilment of promises.

GRV

in these three consonants
the final three thousand years (and more)
of Homo sapiens:

they are the Indo-European
linguistic 'root' which gave us
Grave (Grab in German; Russian ГРОБ),
Groove, Engraving
and Graphic (ГРAΦEIH : to write
- for writing originally was engraved).
From writing, as from the killing fields
and tombs
nothing by Nature will be saved.

(NOTE: the three letters are, more properly, GhREBh-)

Within mere alphabets

"lie all the arbitrary abracadabra"
of our thinking. This is why
we lack the global vision of the fly.

The Clever Animals *

know that there is no time past
no time future
only the grinding present.
We are the only creatures that suffer
from the illusion of time -
because we cannot bear
to think we are of no consequence.

* Rilke, First Duino Elegy -..."die findigen Tiere".

Yet another definition.

God is the pathetic invention
of people who demand a purpose in life
to control themselves (a bit)
and others (a lot), and consequently
have no sense of humour.

This is Spain today -

A Reflection on a Dead Tradition

The non-breeding
saints and hermits
have been (of course)
outbred by the competitive
mobsters and their molls
who have reduced the world
to real-estate and walls.

For Jews

the Sin of Sodom
was wealth: Avaritia.
It was a horrible irony
that Jews were forced
into the rôle
of moneylending,
while sodomy became
a polite word for anal penetration -
which was till recently
the the commonest kind
of birth-control.

(I know it's January.)

December evening -
in front of a nice log fire
I've no need of friends.

I am not a nightmare water-closet

A system ingeniously constructed
by (mainly anglophone)
psychopaths
to reward high-performing
psychopaths,
is, obviously, psychopathic -
and democracy is hardly relevant.

Rasputin and the Duchess of Windsor

were two of the most maligned celebrities
of the twentieth century.
They had little in common -
except that each was a Rank Outsider
brought into a palace.
One was murdered by war-mongers.
The other was made a scapegoat
out of sheer malice.

Amazing fact:

because of the rare

gorillas don't snore.

Thinking is discontinuity.

About time

Capitalism
which loathes loners, monks, hermits
and the self-sufficient has - ironically,
enantiodromically - created a system
uniquely favourable to dissidents,
thoughtful and intelligent drop-outs
(and, of course, criminals).

Since I (so unregretfully) left school
unemployable
I've had a quality of life which gave me
complete control of my time,
my wider environment, and
my more-than-adequate
below-the-poverty-line income.

I give thanks
to the taxes of those
whose whole identity was employment -
the surrender of their time
to banks.

Professor Stephen Hawking

(pictured above)
who is reputed to understand a great deal
about space, time, and string,
is reported as saying
that he does not understand women.
So much for science...
So much for heterosexuality...
So much for understanding...

I certainly don't understand
why women shave their legs
- to say nothing of labioplasty;
nor why men shave their faces,
run around chasing spheres,
are emotionally frozen
and watch horse-races.

It was Irish monks

Drones over London : All Under Control

The surveillance,
crowd-control,

industries will ensure
that the 2012 Olympics
(Games ? - Games ??)
will be the most-organised
since 1936.

adapted from followeed

We are governed by rich people,

gangsters fiddling with
'instruments', by yes-men
and con-men, by fences
and those who won't raise their heads
above parapets, by ditherers,
compromisers, hand-wringers,
hypocrites, Hollywood values,
stuffed shirts and gas-bags,
mealy-mouthed nincompoops, airheads,
short-termists, stupid and dodgy policemen,
wage-slaves in offices, people who devise
surveillance equipment, people 'of principle'
who don't care about poor people,
nitpickers, micro-accountants,
macro-accountants, the World Bank,
criminal transnational drug-firms,
and scientists who haven't the sense
to realise that everything which makes
more comfortable or extends our life
also lays waste the world.

The Less-accused.

In the rich countries
people think they are poor
if they have to think
a little bit before they buy -
a new freezer, a new car,
an electronic game or gadget.

They haven't an idea
of what it is like to queue
for two days for a bag of flour
or a kilo of potatoes.
They are the desperately
poor in spirit,
who haven't an idea
of what they need.
They know only
the hierarchy of visible status
in the Empire of Greed.
