Dawkins' mistake
is to believe in progress which is a sillier concept than god(s).

And just as widespread a concept… I don't know anything about Dawkins' views on progress, but I would not be surprised if progress was some atheists's substitute for the ascension to heaven. The notion that the world is constantly changing just does not seem to be enough for some people. Everything must be progressing and advancing and developing all the time. These words are thrown around so often about so many things that I have become as sick and tired of them as I'm sick and tired of hearing about god.
Yes, I think 'progress' simply took over from 'salvation' as a kind of obsession. Modern atheism is very much the unacknowledged child of Christianity. But Buddhist atheism is quite a different kettle of fish...
