on the fallacy of optimism - failure is a diabolical (because dialectical) success. - proposal for an October maxim? unless you already have one in mind. just reflecting on the lingering evils of Hegelianism.

the weather here is just as i like it: modest sun with a voluble wind. a frozen and horrible beauty in the effortless affirmation of things. where are you right now?

i'd say more but even saying nothing i say too much (on the less congenial internet at least). how have you been doing?

& i apologize for the months of lingering; there's a lot i could express, but only because it's already in your own mind.

ps. i especially enjoyed your substantial expansion to 'this sorry scheme of things' - was this done long ago & i missed it? i somehow remember it beginning with how many wars america had waged since confederation.
