was once covered by trees
and fauna-rich vegetation of many kinds
which stretched across most of Scotland
and Ireland, until late in the Middle Ages.

The Great Caledonian Forest
was 'cleared' to make settlements,
pastures, cultivable fields, charcoal, ships...
and to remove places of last resort
for the displaced and rebellious.

(now considered to be admirable)
was cleared of the few people
who lived there. Against human progress
