While the world heats up and wars rage
and millions are dispossessed, flee,
migrate, the 'serious' British press
devotes lots of column-space
to mourn a doggerel-performer
who changed his name,
a film-actor and a pop-celebrity
(both with Irish names
and unsurprisingly-unknown to me).

It is fair to say that 'serious' online newspapers are packed with trivia, mostly about 'Celebrities' and 'Life-style'.
(But in The Guardian on Saturdays, don't miss Tim Dowling's lovely reports on events in his suburban home.)
