My Jungian theory is that he paints in anger
at having so little talent,
especially as his father was pretty good
(and did quite well during WW2)
and he (who cultivates slightly Abrahamic
slightly van Gogh looks)
had a 17th century ancestor
whose name is in the Dutch art-history books.
This is one of his calmer works, but it reminds me of Soutine. |
