Suicide is largely a masculine phenomenon

because men are rarely mothers
of sons and daughters
and fathers and wives
and mothers and aunts
and orphans and queers and loners
and bullies and rapists
and bankers and slaves.

And men more easily perceive
that everyone's an atoll
about to sink beneath the waves.
