Under the Cascade

of events which we have caused
it seems likely that
we were designed to fail
either by a nasty deity
or through overreaching evolution –
the origin's irrelevant.
And true to form we find it easier
to discover the origin of stars
than to investigate the source
of destructive and habitual human wilfulness.

And so we speed so heedlessly
the eventual Martianisation of the world.
