Part of the 'Moral Failure of The West'
lies in its aesthetic failure to appreciate flaws,
and in its inability to value something *for* its imperfection
(Persian rugs, Japanese ceramics, broken objects, beautiful decay...)
- possibly because we're terrified that our so-vaunted culture
will pass or be swept away.
