Having no hope
for mankind or the planet
should be personally liberating,
but in a world of killer optimists
it is merely paralysing.

I agree completely. In my younger days, I found my pessimism and nihilism to be liberating and invigorating. Now it merely beclouds and paralyses me. I find sunny weather is my last consolation!
