Peter Kürten, asked the Cologne prison psychiatrist in 1931 if –
after his head was sliced off by the guillotine –
he would be able to hear, just for a moment,
the gush of his blood from his neck. 
He was told that, most likely, it would be the last
and perhaps most exciting sound to reach his ears.
