Civilisation's greatest assets

are loneliness and
a constant fear of lowliness.

What about envy and boredom? I feel like we can take a bunch of negative emotions, mix em together, attach an ism and call it a country, globalized world, or whatever. Karl once said when remarking on Shopenhaurer dying at 73, if only he knew when his time was up it would make things so much easier. The more I read and react to fine thinkers and observers such as yourself, the more I agree with that sentiment!

Oh yes, envy, boredom and sheer malice, too.
Not to mention the suppression of imagination.
