Oh yes, they are right to say

that it is essentially death-awareness,
more even than language,
which separates us from the other animals.
They are also right to argue
that death-denial - even more than its imposition
- is one of the most powerful forces in human culture. 
Yet many human beings  - even very young ones -
have welcomed, now find, have found, will find
a floating freedom in their mortality.
And true philosophers think of themselves as dead already.
