The origin of our evil

lies (at least partly) in our ability
to compartmentalise - not just the world
and our experience of it, but ourselves,
to separate our consciousness into parts
which do not interfere with - or even recognise -
each other.  Divided selves
divide the world, divide the spoils
of our divisiveness for gain
until there's nothing left but thirst and pain.
