In late mediæval Western, Northern and Central Europe
most people, living mostly
in the squalid misery
of the Valley of the Shadow
fearfully believed in the eternal tortures
and stinking fires of Hell.
They were terrified
into religious adherence
even if it was only appearance.
Now most people believe in the shallow
and rarefied
feelgood abyss that is Silicon Valley.
