Isn't it depressing

that the women who are most admired
even by other women
are those who have 'manly',
usually forceful, qualities' ?

It is a fact that being manly is positive in almost all societies not only in the Western World but also in traditional cultures like in Afghanistan where there is a long-standing tradition of dressing girls like boy http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-15262680.
This universality can be understood by looking at the definition of manly and its synonyms and word usages.
The Dictionary.com online states that
Manly Synonyms:
“MANLY, MANFUL, MANNISH mean having the traits or qualities that a culture regards as especially characteristic of or ideally appropriate to adult men. MANLY is usually a term of approval, suggesting traits admired by society, such as determination, decisiveness, and steadiness: a manly acceptance of the facts; manly firmness of character. MANFUL also a term of approval, stresses qualities such as courage, strength, and fortitude: a manful effort to overcome great odds. MANNISH is most often used derogatorily in reference to the traits, manners, or accouterments of a woman that are thought to be more appropriate to or typical of a man: a mannish abruptness in her speech; She wore a severely mannish suit. See also male.”
It is of course depressing that women and women’s traits are not regarded as being admired by our macho culture. As a woman having been raised with determination, decisiveness, and steadiness by a divorced mother, I never ever considered me to be different than any men at all, and was unaware that all these traits were manly in any way. Women can have determination, decisiveness, and steadiness and still be feminine. It is our culture of money-violence that wants to portray women like being weak, so they call all be abused by society, not only physically abused, but also economically and mentally abused.

I herd a great radio program some time ago about how women's voices were becoming lower in pitch. Aspiring to become more dominant, they are evolving to copy people with lower voices.

Interestingly men who grow up without fathers around do not tend to have voices that are as low in pitch.

A female colleague at work will start a telephone call relatively high in pitch, sounding friendly and establishing rapport. This changes when she has a statement or point of view to get across, there is almost a octave lower or mores difference, if this does not succeed or is questioned the receiver is ignored and it is repeated at same low pitch with considerably increased volume. I hate it. Internation, how something is said, is important as it carries up to 80% of meaning when combined with other non verbal behaviour. E.g, you could whisper 'fuck off' jokingly with a smile on your face whilst doing something silly which will be taken well in comparison to screaming it jumping up and down.
