The We of Me.

I rediscovered only yesterday this famous phrase
of the wonderful Carson McCullers...
in The Member of the Wedding
which I first read in my 'teens
(a time when the word 'teens
first entered the Northern Irish vocabulary).

Pondering this I have concluded that
there has never been a we of me,
except in woods and trees.
Landscape, woods and trees
have always been the we of me
– but never the consuming sea.

Probably my closest friends
have always been my unassuming skin-mites.
Let them party till I cease to be !
