'Most people who go to church don’t believe in God;

very few of them really believe,
but somewhere deep inside they try to convince themselves there is a God.'

This quote is more about church goers than it is about belief in God. Having been a devout church goer for forty-three years, having taught at an American fundamentalist Christian college for five years, I question the validity of this generalization and its smug facility.

It depends, Marcus, on whether or not one regards Belief as vacuous, the sleep of reason and moral/intellectual laziness...

You definition reeks of belief and intellectual arrogance.
