When we first discovered the world-wide web

- way back -
we thought that it would be an enormous
and liberating 'power for good'.
Now we know that it is an enormous
opportunity for harassment, bullying, blackmail,
profiteering, extortion
and the dissemination of hatred and misinformation.
As human beings become ever more powerful
nastiness and greed increasingly outweigh altruism.

Dear Anthony…I do find the internet to be liberating and I, of course, use the computer/internet wisely. Given the overabundance of information the computer/internet provides, those who can really benefit from the use of this technology, are those with sound background knowledge, and an inquisitive mind. Computer/internet is better than TV; I can still get input from dissidents who may have the freedom that is prohibited in a third world country like Panama…The intellectual freedom enjoyed by intellectuals in the developed world is unheard of in a country like mine…Yes, disinformation and hatred are both promoted with the internet, but there is likewise room for anarchists and dissidents who stand against the evil and perverse status quo. I just don’t accept that money can simply buy everything, even dignity and principles…
