Almonds, Bees and Climate change.

Spain and the south-west of France used to export
large quantities of almonds - until Californians
with their low-paid Mexican labour started planting
almond trees, for which they had to create
irrigation channels.  Every year bees were trucked
from North Dakota to pollinate the almond flowers,
and were trucked back again several hundred miles.
Now the water channels have dried up in California;
due to drought and starvation
fewer and fewer bees are flying
and almond trees are dying.
