As Communication becomes

ever more fragmented and banal
I fear that friendship becomes ever more
vapid and hollow.

Communication easily becomes fragmented and banal, accepted. But I find the opposite to you, though. Close friendships, and closeness, are still possible and all the more valued with all the vapidity around them.

Sadly too, much communication nowadays relies on the compliance of technology. One hopes though, that this does not mean that friendships cannot be rekindled, and connections remade.

Don't friends walk you through the shadow of death, and isn't their vapidity, then, a relief? Isn't their just being there sometimes a comfort? Aren't they the only ones you know are hiding the truth as soon as they lie? Aren't they the closest ones on earth except your lover? Aren't their disappointments, challenges, and impossible hurdles the ways you soften into life's pain? Aren't they the inevitable unflattering mirror of your truth?
