What started as a puerile rumour

(possibly based on guilt)
ended up as the greatest hoax in history.
Now two popes canonise two other popes
in rich magnificence
with no sense of the ridiculous
and without the least humility.

There is something Hegelian here about the swirling synthesizing gyre of history where patriarchal institutional drives proclaim glorious spiritual triumphs, or at least think they are doing so, while all the rest of the world understands the blast of trumpets as the gasping for breath in a death rattle. Too bad two Popes didn't realize also that John XXIII will always stand on his own.
