I thought that Janis Joplin's line
Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose
was glib rubbish. My reply was
Freedom's just another word for grabbing what you can.
But now I realise that what she was trying
so incompetently to say was that
you have no idea what freedom is if you are still
clinging to comfort, order, things, people or ideas -
in other words, the only freedom is death.
