is a strange and slippery word.
I am trying to think of men that I would call
manly:
quiet, non-assertive, not narcissistic, capable,
principled but not dogmatic,
forbearing, utterly reliable,
protective but not inclined to smother...
The manliest (maybe the only manly)
person I have known was, in fact, my mother.
