I am saved

from the sink and the sheen of celebrity
by being a recluse
and having little talent
and no vulgar muliebrity.

  2. Vulgar muliebrity--odd phrase, odd concept, as if such could bring celebrity. Two questions: who were you thinking of in mentioning such a category, and the second, what words would constitute the male equivalent?

  4. 'Vulgar muliebrity' refers to cat-walk strutters, Hollywood starlets, pop-singers, and the images on billboards and in glossy magazines.

The male equivalent is, of course, 'vulgar virility' or, if you like 'obscene machismo'.

  6. If there is going to be celebrity then a let it be a measure of aburdity, the greater the adulation the more absurd both the followers and the followed.
