The rhythm of a washing-machine

is 'like a great heartbeat,
and the rush of its waters
[is] what the unborn hear -
our last memory of peace.'

~ Thomas Harris, The Silence of the Lambs.

  2. The main thing to remember with a washing-machine is to clean the filter periodically.
If one lives in a hard-water area (as I do) it is a good idea to pour a little vinegar in to free the outlet from scale.

My machine is a top-loader, which is common in France but not, for example, in the UK. The two types use space differently. If you want an extra surface, get a top-loader. If you want a machine that fits under a surface, get a front-loader.
