Strange

that the Golden Age
of the English Novel
should happen just before
the Fall...

As for poetry,
I see only mine:
a loaded water-pistol
against
enarmoured ignorance.

    Now, with the aged perspective I can relate to your excellent wording.
    I was once a loaded water-pistol against the Halton Board of Education.
